Interior Paint Product for Specific Surfaces: Kitchen Cabinets

Posted by Anthony Giangrossi Aug 30 2015

I get a lot of requests for the painting of kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and bookshelves. During the past fifteen years, I have used many different paint products that are made explicitly for cabinets. There is one that I can highly recommend for all surfaces which provides the best durability, longevity and is easy to keep clean.

Below is a link for the product Hollandlac from Fine Paints of Europe:

Here is a picture in the Brilliant finish. It has a high sheen that will provide the ultimate durability but will show the most imperfections if the wood is not new.

Below is a picture in the Satin finish. The sheen is not as high/noticeable as Brilliant, will show minimal imperfections and also provide exceptional durability. This sheen is the most common as it provides the “showroom” finish. The cabinets will look like a factory finished product if appropriately applied.

AfterBuilt-In

This is an oil-based product and is very difficult to apply. I highly recommend hiring a professional painting contractor who has the experience to apply this interior paint product for specific surfaces for kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and bookshelves.  This product can also be used on all furniture from tables and chairs to dressers and nightstands.

The next blog will focus on the correct paint products to use on interior house trim including baseboards, molding, windows, doors, and frames.

Interior Paint Products for Specific Surfaces: Basement Floors

Posted by Anthony Giangrossi Aug 23 2015

When making the decision to paint a basement floor or foundation walls it’s very important to use a product that bonds and cures properly with masonry or concrete surfaces. These products can be applied directly to the floor or foundation surface with the correct preparation and without primer. Preparation can vary depending on the condition of the surface. If it’s newer masonry or concrete a simple light sanding and cleaning with lukewarm water will work. If the surface is showing efflorescence, dirt, oil spills or other substances that stained the surface it should be power sanded, scrubbed with either diluted phosphoric or muriatic acid and an immediate follow up wash with lukewarm water to make sure all of the acid cleaner has been removed.  If the surface has prior paint that is chipping or flaking the entire surface needs to be scraped, power grinded, washed with either of the above acids followed up with lukewarm water to remove the acid cleaner. Make sure the cleaned surface is dried before applying the paint or epoxy.

Interior Paint Products for Specific Surfaces: Heaters, Radiators

Posted by Anthony Giangrossi Aug 16 2015

Like the exterior, it’s just as important to choose the correct interior paint products for specific surfaces. You don’t want to put wall or ceiling paint on the trim, cabinets, basements floors, heaters, radiators, interior of fireplaces, BBQs, etc. If the incorrect product is used on surface it will retain it’s color and durability only for a short period of time and fail much faster than when the correct product is used.  In this blog I will address the correct interior paint products for specific surfaces including: floor heaters, radiators and interior of fireplaces.

Choosing Exterior Paint Products for Specific Surfaces: Fence

Posted by Anthony Giangrossi Aug 02 2015

Fences can be painted or stained depending of the wood being used. If the fence is made of pine it will need to be painted since they not porous surfaces.

If the fence is made of cedar or redwood there are two stain options: solid or semi-transparent. Solid stain will penetrate the wood and provide a finished look of paint. Here is a link for solid stain:

The majority of exterior paint products for specific surfaces have been addressed in this blog. Please do not hesitate to contact me regarding the different products for specific surfaces.

Choosing Exterior Paint Products for Specific Surfaces: Porch & Decks

Posted by Anthony Giangrossi Jul 26 2015

When is comes to painting or staining the flat (walkable) surfaces of wood porch/deck floors and stairs it’s critical to not use the exterior paint products for specific surfaces noted in prior blogs. Those products (paint and stain) are only horizontal surfaces on the house and can’t be walked on. If those products were used on porch/deck floors and stairs there would be no durability and fail rapidly.
